Collage of fishing photos from Hungry Jack LodgeSurrounded by the lake on three sides, Hungry Jack Lodge can offer a variety of fishing experiences both summer and winter.  Hungry Jack is a Minnesota DNR managed smallmouth bass trophy lake.  We also enjoy excellent walleye fishing.  Hungry Jack Lake is 463 acres in size with a maximum depth of 71'.  Full guide services, with boat rentals are available, through Hungry Jack Lodge & Campground on a total of six lakes without motor restrictions. 2006  FISHING  SEASONS and regulations 

State of Minnesota fishing licenses are available in the Hungry Jack Lodge & Campground business office, located in our main lodge.  Maps for area lakes and the BWCA are available in our business office, bait shop and the Loggers Lounge.  A free map of Hungry Jack Lake is also available.

The following quotations were taken from the 2001 Minnesota DNR lake survey for Hungry Jack lake.

"Hungry Jack Lake has good numbers of walleye with many age classes present. Average size of walleye collected in 2001 was excellent."

"the 2001 survey showed a good percentage of bass over 14 inches."

"Rainbow smelt and yellow perch occur in fairly high numbers and provide good forage for larger predators like walleye, lake trout, and northern pike."

"There are good numbers of bluegill in Hungry Jack Lake" ----" A good bluegill population is unusual for lakes in this area."

"Average size of lake trout collected in 2002 was excellent."

"Smallmouth bass abundance appeared to have been about average for a lake of this type; however, the average size of the fish collected in 2002 was above average."

For your convenience, we have included a link to the State of Minnesota DNR website, regulations page.  At that page, you can view and download the latest regulations relating to fishing, hunting, snowmobiles, etc.

Permits are required for all visitors of the BWCA, whether for a day or overnight.  If you want to canoe, hike or fish in the BWCA, Hungry Jack Lodge & Campground will provide you with a free "day use" permit.  For more information about about BWCA permits visit http://www.bwca.cc/tripplanning/reservations.htm
