Fishing
is one of the activities that plays an important part of Hungry Jack
Lodge & Campground resort. For that reason we have dedicated a separate page
of our website just to fishing. If you enjoy
fishing and want to learn more about fishing at Hungry Jack Lodge be
sure to visit our fishing page. Also check out
the fishing Guide Services, shown on our

Fishing equipment, bait,
boats
and canoes rentals and more are all
available at Hungry Jack to help enhance your visit and help you enjoy
all that the area has to offer. Maps for area lakes and the BWCA are
available in our business office, bait shop and the Loggers Lounge. A
free map of Hungry Jack Lake is also available
in our office.
canoeing in or outside of the bwca
Being adjacent to the BWCA(W), Hungry Jack Lodge and
Campground has excellent canoe routes starting right from our northwoods
resort. Whether your a seasoned paddler or a novice there is a
"day trip" that will fit your abilities. To see a number of
canoeing photos take a look at our Photo
Galleries page.
Pack a lunch, jump in a canoe and take a day trip into
the BWCA to famous Stairway Portage and Rose Falls, near the Canadian
Border. A good place to have a snack or lunch is atop the palisades
overlooking beautiful Rose Lake, with a great view of Canada across the
lake on the northern shore. After lunch continue down Stairway Portage,
past Rose Falls, to the shore of Rose lake for a swim in the cool
refreshing water before starting your journey back to Hungry Jack Lodge
and Campground. On this little trip you will paddle portions of
Hungry Jack Lake, West Bearskin Lake and
Duncan Lake. You can leave right from your dock.
If you want to be a little off of the beaten track,
canoe into Daniels Lake, another lake within the BWCA. You'll probably
be the only one on Daniels and enjoy the lake all to yourself. At the
far northeast end of Daniels there's a good chance that you may see
moose, otters and other wildlife. On your trip to Daniels Lake you
will paddle portions of Hungry Jack Lake, West Bearskin Lake and of
course Daniels Lake. Again, you can leave right from Hungry Jack
Lodge & Campground by canoe
The two short trips mentioned above will take you into
the BWCA. Permits are required for all visitors of the BWCA, whether for
a day or overnight. If you want to canoe, hike or fish in the BWCA,
Hungry Jack Lodge & Campground will provide you with a free "day use"
permit. For more information about about BWCA permits visit
http://www.bwca.cc/tripplanning/reservations.htm
A shorter canoe trip with gorgeous vistas can be had by
paddling to the east end of Hungry Jack Lake. In the southeast corner of
the lake pull your canoe on shore, at the beginning of the portage into
Flour Lake (see Lake Map) and from that point
take a short hike to the top of Honeymoon Bluff. From the top of
the bluff you'll have a spectacular view of Hungry Jack Lake, West
Bearskin Lake and the vast wilderness that is the Gunflint Trail and
BWCA. You can do this short trip by canoe or motorboat.
hiking in or outside of the bwca(W)
Maybe you would prefer to hike one of the many nature
trails to nearby scenic points like Caribou Rock (a very short hike), Moss Lake overlook,
Honeymoon Bluff, or Long Portage -- a real shutterbugs delight.
You can begin your jaunt on any of those scenic hiking trails right from
your cabin at Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground.
If you're real adventurous you can hike to the top of
Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota. The trail head to
the top of Eagle Mountain is a short drive from Hungry Jack Lodge and
Resort. There are numerous other hiking trails within a short
drive including Lima Mountain and Magnetic Rock.
Most of the hiking trails are easy trails to hike, with
the exception of the Eagle Mountain Trail which can be some what
arduous. So, just pack up some trail gorp or snacks and water and
enjoy the magnificent beauty that abounds in the woods and lakes
surrounding Hungry Jack Lodge and Campground. Be
sure to take your camera and plenty of film on all of your ventures.
You'll be sorry if you don't.
relaxing at our northwoods resort
Perhaps you don't feel like venturing out away from the
lodge. No problem. There's plenty to do right at Hungry Jack Lodge.

beach. Take a dip in the crystal clear waters at our sand swimming
beach, complete with swim raft. Kids can play in the sand box or on the
playground equipment. Pitch some horseshoes, use the sauna or just
sit and relax and soak in the beauty of Hungry Jack Lake.
